How a 74-Year-Old Philly Kid Changed How I Think About Life

It's been a while.

I've been battling some very challenging health issues.

By far, the most challenging couple of months of my life, mentally and physically.

I'm living a roller coaster of emotions, and my challenges are far from over.

Luckily, I have a fantastic wife and two children who have been there for me.

I also have a great friend, Barry Kleiman, who checks on me every day.

Business is the last thing on my mind right now, but I want to keep my toe in the water while I battle through this challenging time.

Most of you know me.

I've written the book on LinkedIn (literally), coached thousands of professionals, and spent decades helping people build their businesses online.

But Barry Kleiman's new book, "The Playground Principles", hit me differently.

Maybe it's because I'm at that stage of life where I'm helping men 50+ rediscover their purpose and I'm personally creating a new purpose for my life.

Or maybe it's because Barry's story reminds me that the best business lessons often come from the simplest places.

This Thursday, we're diving deep into Barry's book.

Here's what I love about The Playground Principles.

Barry takes the unwritten rules we all learned as kids, share the ball, say what you mean, make your teammates better, and shows how they're actually the secret sauce for authentic business success.

We'll be talking about:

• The five playground principles that beat any MBA curriculum

• Barry's "Four Questions" framework (this one's a game-changer)

• Why "connection is currency" in a world going digital

• How playground wisdom creates advantages AI can't touch

Come ready to discuss:

•Which principle hits closest to home for your current challenges?

•How can we apply Barry's framework to our businesses right now?

•What would change if we brought playground authenticity to our professional lives?

I've read hundreds of business books.

Most are recycled advice wrapped in fancy packaging.

This one's different.

It's real. It's practical.

And it works.

Whether you read every page or just caught the highlights, bring your insights to our live discussion.

Tom Ruwitch and I read the books for you in The Mastermind Book Club.

The magic happens when we connect these timeless principles to what we're actually building.

When: This Thursday, September 25th at 11:30 AM Pacific/2:30 PM Eastern

One of the most powerful stories in Barry Kleiman's "The Playground Principles" isn't actually about what happened on the playground. It's about the man who never set foot on it but shaped everything that happened there. The Blue-Collar Foundation Barry describes his father as a man who "never set foot on the blacktop" but "instilled the quiet, blue-collar examples of humility, effort, and always showing up." This father, captured in a cherished family photograph with Barry and his brothers,...

A few weeks ago, I couldn't walk more than a few steps. I'd fall to the floor, curl up in fetal position, feeling like I was still falling. For 21 days, I was bedridden with extreme vertigo in both ears, unable to work, unable to concentrate for more than a few seconds, unable to do the simplest things I'd always taken for granted. It was one of the most challenging periods of my life. But something unexpected happened as I began to recover. This obstacle that completely derailed my life...

Last week, I caught myself snapping at my wife over something trivial, a misplaced glass. I felt embarrassed and said to myself, “This isn’t me!” But Chapter 24 of Modern Wisdom, Ancient Roots explained exactly what was going on and offered a path out of it. Dr. Rao reveals that anger and fear aren’t triggered by what’s happening around us. They come from resistance to our present moment. When life doesn’t match our expectations, we tense up, tighten our identity, and react, rather than...
