When the creative juices stop flowing

For years, I could write an article or email every day.

The creative juices were flowing like Niagara Falls.

Lately, my mind has been blank when it comes to creating content.

Most of the time I can snap out of my writer's block.

Not this time.

It reminds me of an image I saw on social media.

My mind is like my internet browser.

19 tabs are open.

3 of them are frozen and I have no idea where the music is coming from.

I usually have 40-50 tabs open LOL.

For some reason, I stopped doing my morning routine.

Meditate.

Write in my journal.

Read for 30 minutes.

Exercise for at least an hour.

I have kept up my Peloton routine which started in January 2020.

Over 1800 rides and over 2500 workouts.

The rest of my routine faded away.

This morning I grabbed what I thought was a new journal from my bookshelf.

To my surprise, there were a few pages of random thoughts from 2021.

The random thoughts were about a new program I was creating about deep-dive market research and defining your ideal client.

I never launched the program.

The rest of the scribbles were about how I wanted to spend the next 20 years.

I can thank Tommy Schaff for expanding my thinking.

When he asked me how I wanted to spend the next 20 years, I told him there's a good chance I'll be dead in 20 years because I'm 66.

He said I still need to have a plan or I would just wither away.

I have five pages of journal entries about how I want to spend the next 20 years and they haven't changed since I wrote them in 2021.

A lot of the entries are related to what I'm passionate about.

My passions have evolved over the years but my core passions remain.

A few months ago Lorna Scott introduced me to The Passion Test.

I was amazed how accurate the test was.

It validated what I'm truly passionate about and how they will play into my 20-year plan.

On Tuesday, January 21st at 10 AM Pacific/1 PM Eastern, Lorna will share The Passion Test with us.

I know what you're thinking... Not another book about storytelling. When marketers see a new trend, they jump on it like ants at a picnic. "Experts" come out of the woodwork after watching a few YouTube videos. They use ChatGPT to create a generic course they want to sell to you for $1997. They'll offer to write stories for you even though they don't share their stories on LinkedIn or SubStack. If you are a storytelling expert, why aren't you writing stories every day? Yes, storytelling is a...

I've been very quiet for months. I'm not ignoring you. The major shifts by Google, Facebook and social media engagement has consumed me. AI has consumed me. So many opportunities. So many platforms. The AI explosion reminds me of the internet 1.0 boom. In the late 1990s, everyone was racing to jump on the internet bandwagon. So many opportunities. So many ideas. A friend left a stable job at Chevron to join a dot com startup. Within a year, his stock options were worth $75 million... ...on...

A golden new year's eve with the number 2055 on it

I'm not a fan of New Year's resolutions. I know New Year's is about a fresh start for many people. What are your New Year's resolutions? Be honest... Have you ever followed through on a New Year's resolution? Me neither. That explains why gyms are full of new faces in January. By February, the new faces are gone. Why do New Year's resolutions fail? I asked our old friend ChatGPT why New Year's Resolutions fail and the answers are pretty obvious. 1. Unrealistic Goals Setting goals that are too...
