Still using business cards? Let's chat...

Business card?

Who still carries business cards?

In the old days, we gave out business cards to everyone they met.

If I considered you a valuable resource, you earned a coveted spot in my Rolodex.

There were only 200 spots in my Rolodex and this was my professional network before the internet.

One of my favorite business cards of all time was my friend Lorne Evje's card.

I like his card because we both share a subtle sense of sarcasm.

My Card was printed on the front.

His contact information was on the back of the card.

Simple but effective.

Business cards worked well for me for years until...

I discovered something much more powerful than my business card.

If I really wanted to get the attention of a C-level executive, I Fed Exed them a copy of my Ultimate Guide to Twitter for Business or Ultimate Guide to LinkedIn for Business books.

My secret sauce?

I included a handwritten note telling them why I was thinking of them (thank you for teaching me the power of handwritten notes, Susan RoAne.)

You wouldn't believe how many executives reached out to me when they received a copy of my book.

This worked better than cold calling or spamming them with LinkedIn sales pitches.

Sending a copy of my book opened countless doors for me and led to many great long-term clients.

As I was starting my coaching practice in 2002, one of my marketing mentors said writing a book is a great way to establish credibility.

I knew nothing about getting a book published until I met Micah Schwader.

Micah was my first writing coach and helped me hone my writing skills.

He's one of the main reasons I've written four books for Entrepreneur Press.

On Tuesday, December 10th at 10 AM Pacific/1 PM Eastern, Micah will be sharing how you can become a published author.

In 2001, my 20+ year tech career ended abruptly. I was a casualty of the dot com crash. For over 20 years my intuition guided my career and kept me ahead of the curve. In 1980 I landed my first job in the computer industry long before most businesses used computers (long before fax machines). I learned computer networking as it was being invented. In 1989, I was employee number 40 at Cellular One as the cellular industry was just starting. Cellular One used to bring in coaches (before they...

In 2023 I sent 300+ emails. In 2024, I sent less than 100 emails. Why the significant decrease? A couple of private clients keep me busy so I stopped doing short-term client work. The real reason? I'm struggling with some nasty long COVID issues including brain fog and fatigue. Since I cut back on my client work, I'm working on something new that may interest you. Here's a taste of what I'm working on...Our CEO proudly announced record revenues for the fourth year in a row. Revenue jumped...

My friend Ed Dale, sent this to me. Type this into ChatGPT:"From all our interactions, what is one thing you can tell me about myself that I wouldn't know"Here's what I learned about myself. One thing that stands out from our interactions is how deeply you embody the concept of "purpose-driven reinvention". You aren't just focused on building businesses or writing books for the sake of profit—you’re driven by the desire to help others transition through major life changes, just as you’ve done...
